Rabbi Shlomo Littman, Rosh Kollel/Dean

Joined December 2010, Founding member

A Monsey native, Rabbi Littman's in-depth Talmudic training began at Yeshivas Mir in Brooklyn, after which he studied under HaRav Avraham Yehoshua Soloveitchik at the Brisk Yeshiva in Yerushalayim. He then continued his studies at Beth Medrash Govoha, in Lakewood, NJ, where he originally settled with his wife, Esti (nee Nierenberg) of Flatbush. The Littmans relocated to Houston in 2010, when the Kollel was first established. Rabbi Littman's breadth of Torah knowledge is a true resource for the whole community. Esti is the pre-school principal at Yeshivat Torat Emet.



Rabbi Menachem Bresler, Scholar

Joined November 2016

R' Menachem spent his childhood in his hometown of Brooklyn,  where he attended the local Yeshivas Mir. Shortly after finishing high school, he moved on to Yeshivas Toras Chesed in Lakewood, New Jersey. He continued his studies in the Mir Yeshiva in Eretz Yisroel where he learned under the venerable R' Asher Arielli. Upon returning to America, R' Menachem enrolled in Beth Medrash Govoha, where he later joined the Kollel after his marriage to Chayi (nee Karmen) of Flatbush. After spending their first years together in Lakewood, the Breslers moved to Houston to join the Kollel. Chayi is a CPA, in addition to being a talented and sought after photographer.


Rabbi Yehuda Bresler, Scholar

Joined May 2017

R' Yehuda, a native of Flatbush studied in Yeshivas Merkaz Hatorah in Belle Harbor during is high school and post-high school years. He continued on to the Brisker Kollel in Yerushalyim prior to traveling to Lakewood, New Jersey where he studied at Bais Medrash Govoha. After marrying his wife, Elissheva (nee Sussman) the Breslers settled in Lakewood where R' Yehuda was a prominent member of R' Shalom Strickman's kollel. Elissheva is currently studying to become a licensed Speech Language Pathologist.


Rabbi Naphtali Buchwald, Scholar

Joined October 2014

R’ Naphtali was born and raised on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Naphtali was a member of the founding class at Yeshiva Ohavai Torah of Riverdale. After graduating he traveled to Eretz Yisrael and studied In Yeshivas Toras Moshe in Yerushalayim. After returning to America he enrolled in Lakewood's Beth Medrash Govoha where he settled with his wife Shira (nee Schonfeld) of Queens, New York.

R' Naphtali has completed the Ner Le'elef leadership training program and National Council of Young Israel's Rabbinic training course. He has published a kunteres on various halachic topics. He is currently the rabbinic intern at the Young Israel of Houston under the leadership of Rabbi Yehoshua Wender. He is completing his semicha and shimush from BMG and is an aspiring pulpit rabbi. Shira has a degree in Special Education in addition to being a talented graphic artist.


Rabbi Nosson Dubin, Scholar

Joined October 2014

Originally from the Flatbush neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY, R’ Nosson began his studies at Yeshiva Torah Temimah. Upon graduation, he continued on to Yeshivas Kodshim in Yerushalayim, and then subsequently joined Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood where he settled with his wife, Tzirel (nee Serebrowski) of Toronto.

R’ Nosson has contributed to the strengthening of Jewish communities by spearheading SEED programs in Sacramento, CA, Victoria, BC and North Miami Beach, FL, and is currently pursuing semicha. Tzirel is an accomplished writer and has published several articles in a variety of prestigious magazines and newspapers.  

Towards the end of 2016, R' Nosson was appointed Rabbinic Administrator for the Houston Kashrus Association.   


Rabbi Moshe Friedman, Director

Joined December 2010, Founding member

Originally from Baltimore, R' Moshe first attended Yeshivas Ner Yisroel of Baltimore. He subsequently joined the Mir Yeshiva in Yerushalayim. Upon returning to the states, Rabbi Friedman continued his studies at Beth Medrash Govoha, where he joined the Kollel after his marriage to Chevie (nee Katz) of Queens, New York. The Friedmans moved to Houston in December of 2010. Rabbi Friedman is the Director of the Kollel and is responsible for all programming and community development. Chevie is a Speech Language Pathologist in the Sugar Land area.



Rabbi Avi Metchik, Scholar

Joined October 2014

R' Avi was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Mesivta of Greater Boston. He continued his studies in Yeshivas Yesodai Hatorah in Lakewood, New Jersey before attending Yeshivas Mir in Yerushalayim. Upon his return to America, R' Avi attended Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood where he settled with his wife Adina (nee Greenberg) of White Plains, New York.

R' Avi is currently enrolled in the Ner L'elef leadership training program. Additionally, R' Avi received semicha from R' Ephraim Greenblatt zt"l in 2013. Adina holds a dual Masters degree in Social Work and Special Education.


Rabbi Zvi Selevan, Scholar

Joined August 2015

After spending his childhood in Brooklyn, R' Zvi continued his education in some of the most prestigious yeshivos in the world. He graduated high school from Yeshivas Yesodei Yeshurun in Queens and continued on to the Yeshiva of South Fallsburg. He then traveled to Yerushalayim to study in Yeshivas Mir under R' Asher Arieli. Upon returning to America, R' Zvi attended Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, New Jersey. After marrying his wife, Naomi (nee Abrahamson), the Selevans settled in Queens where R' Zvi was a member of a local Kollel. Naomi holds a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) and has extensive experience in the field of pharmacology. R' Zvi authored the sefer, Eretz Zvi on the topic of the borders of Eretz Yisroel.





Rabbi Aharon BergerScholar

From May 2011-August 2015

Originally of Detroit, R' Aharon attended the famed Telshe Yeshiva in Cleveland. He later studied at the Brisker Kollel in Yerushalayim, before moving on to Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, where he settled with his wife, Batya (nee Singer) of Potomac, Maryland. The Bergers moved to Houston in December of 2010. Batya serves as a pediatric Speech Language Pathologist in the Sugar Land area. After four years in the Kollel, R' Aaron became a Rebbi in Yeshivat Torat Emet.


Rabbi Leibel Kenzer, Scholar

From December 2010-August 2015, Founding member

Raised in Chicago, R' Leibel attended the Telshe Yeshiva of Chicago, after which he studied at the prestigious Brisk Yeshiva in Yerushalayim. He subsequently attended Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, where he first settled with his wife Elisheva (nee Gordon) of Detroit and joined the Kollel at BMG. The Kenzers moved to Houston in December of 2010. R' Leibel currently works as a nursing home administrator in Detroit.


Rabbi Daniel Melmed, Scholar

December 2010-June 2017, Founding member

R' Daniel is a native of Boro Park in Brooklyn, New York. Daniel studied at Yeshivas Tiferes Torah in Staten Island. In Eretz Yisroel, he joined Yeshivas Bais Yisroel in Neve Yaakov and later learned in the Mir Yeshiva in Yeushalayim. He later attended eth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood where he settled with his wife, Sarala (nee Fischman) of Flatbush, in Brooklyn, New York. The Melmeds moved to Houston in December of 2010. Sarala has a masters degree in special education. R' Daniel currently works as a LCSW in the New York area.


Rabbi Shmuel Soussan, Sephardic Division

Joined October 2013 in partnership with Congregation Beth Rambam

Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, R' Shmuel attended the local Yeshiva Gedola Merkaz Hatorah. He continued his studies in Eretz Yisrael, attending the famed Yeshivat Mikdash Melech. After returning to America, R' Shmuel enrolled in Bet Medrash of Long Branch (New Jersey). During his time in Long Branch he met his wife, Mikhal (neeBenisty), also from Montreal. After their marriage, they settled in Lakewood, New Jersey where R' Shmuel joined the Kollel of Beth Medrash Govoha.

During the morning afternoon hours, R' Shmuel studies with the Kollel and during evenings he shares his knowledge, talent and enthusiasm with the Sephardic community at Congregation Beth Rambam. Additionally, R' Shmuel is a professional Sephardic Chazzan and attended the School of Chazanut during his studies in Eretz Yisrael.


Rabbi Akiva Sutofsky, Scholar/Teen Programming

From December 2010 - August 2014, Founding member

R' Akiva was born and raised in Brooklyn's Flatbush community, where he attended the local Yeshiva of Flatbush. He continued his studies at Merkaz HaTorah in Yerushalayim. Upon his return to America he studied under HaRav Aharon Lopiansky at the Yeshiva of Greater Washington in Silver Spring, Maryland. R' Akiva is married to Chana Sara (nee Lewis) of Baltimore. After their marriage, the Sutofsky's settled in Eretz Yisroel, where R' Akiva joined the Kollel in the Mir. After seven years the Sutofsky's relocated to Houston.  Chana Sara is currently a college admissions counselor for Testing and Training International. During the summer of 2014, the Sutofsky's moved to Pitttsburgh where R' Akiva became a high school Rebbi at Hillel Academy.
